Our History
Propelled by a belief that Detroit public schools’ sustainability was too big a task for a school district to undertake alone, the Coleman A. Young II Educational Foundation was established in 2019 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit Michigan corporation.
The Coleman A. Young II Educational Foundation’s priority was to build on Detroit’s rich history to define the possibilities and provide solutions for preparing a diverse population for global competition.
Our organization has developed and implemented innovative programming for high school youth through collaboration with principals, teachers, administrators, businesses, community organizations, and local citizens. Through its collaborative effort, the Foundation has leveraged resources and engaged the Detroit community to improve public schools’ standing in our community, state, and nation.
Coleman A. Young II Educational Foundation continues to be committed to innovation and creativity, with a willingness to take risks in a pursuit to ensure that public education is producing future-ready youth who will move the nation forward.
